The Doctor’s House Bed and Breakfast – Circa 1896

A perfect alternative to a hotel  in the heart of Grey and Bruce Counties, Ontario, Canada

The “Best Sleep Anywhere” is what one of our guests wrote on Trip Advisor and we could not say it better because that is what a vacation at The Doctor’s House B and B in the quaint village of Tara is all about.

Centrally located for visits to the Niagara Escarpment, all the way from the Colopore Highlands to Tobermory or Lake Huron, where

If you’re a winter enthusiast cruise the groomed snowmobile trails, from our front door or go cross country skiing at Sawmill Trails at Hepworth or a little farther north the trails at Sauble Cross Country Ski Club are on a nice drive past Sauble Falls.Just a short hour’s drive away, a trip we try to make at least twice a week in the winter, you will find the hills of the Blue Mountains featuring some of the best downhill skiing anywhere in Ontario.

In addition to all this our circa 1896 Victorian home awaits you with its old world charm and lovely gardens. As one of our recent guests wrote :

“Walking in the door to the Doctor’s House is like entering the portal to another era. The decor and attention to detail sweep you back to the feeling and charm of a younger Canada in it’s beginning. The Doctor’s House is really a ‘home’ with a welcome in every room”.

Lovingly restored, featuring original woodwork, hardwood floors, a grand cherry staircase and a collection of antique furniture carefully collected to show Ontario’s rich past.

All rooms are large and comfortable, with furnishings to represent the theme of the room.

An infrared sauna is available to further soothe the mind and body after the day spent taking in all the sights and sounds of the Grey-Bruce area.

A large deck is where you can relax and enjoy the landscaped gardens and also a fire pit is available to sit around and roast marshmallows on a warm summer evening.

So come and stay and play at our beautiful home and discover all the secrets that the Grey-Bruce has to offer, as another of our guest said recently,

“definitely a better long weekend idea than fighting the Muskoka traffic! But then again I secretly hope that more people don’t find out about this little gem so we can keep it all to ourselves” .

Your Hosts, Miriam and John, await you and we will be more than pleased to send you to some hidden gem that we know away from the crowds, or to some of the most popular places in this area.
