The Doctor’s House is an awesome Bed and Breakfast! I have stayed here several times, and this time I have been here several days. Miriam and John are wonderful hosts, and Tara is a neat little village. One is close to beaches, shopping, and historical sites. Miriam took me to a garden tea at the Billy Bishop Museum this week. Many were dressed in Victorian customes, and the tea and scones were delicious! Whether one wants to just relax, or to sight see, there is plenty to do when you Tarry at Tara!

The Victorian room was beautiful and I felt at home instantaneously upon entering. It was wonderful to have such a nice breeze through the windows and soft, clean bedclothes to lay upon. I slept wonderfully. Even my sister chose to have an afternoon nap rather than going to the beach! I look very forward to coming back again.

Thank you for your perfect hospitality, your luxurious bed, the live music entertainment, your knowledge and wisdom of “life” and the “area”, and last but not least your scrumptious spelt flour (especially made for us) Bavarian Pancake. Mmm Also, your parting gifts made us feel almost like family. We wish you the best of everything as the adventures continue for you. Thank you for sharing yourselves and your home. “TARA”- Heaven on Earth Yeah! LOVED IT ALL

Miriam. Who would have guessed, that when I met you at the Evergreen Centre before dawn, all set to join our back country canoe trip in northern Ontario, that you would be the intrepid tripper and camper you proved yourself to be! What I learned about you on our trip—your kindness, energy, your wonderful congeniality is what I found here at the Doctor’s House! What a wonderful experience it was to be the recipient of your kind and generous hospitality! I can’t wait to return.

Karen and Cathy, Waterloo, Ontario, July 2011

What a “gem” we have found in Tara. The Doctor’s House B&B is one of a kind. Miriam and John have a wonderful way of making you feel at home, from the minute you walk through the door. Their house is a masterpiece of themed rooms, antiques and beautiful linens. It is a labour of love for them. This is demonstrated throughout the house, with no detail left unattended. We stayed in the Victorian Room in pure luxury and comfort. Small touches of water bottles and candies beside the bed, made us feel cared for and looked after—not to mention the fragrant lavender sachets which lulled us to sleep. Breakfast on the back deck amongst their beautiful gardens was divine. We had the fruit compote and Miriam’s fabulous Bavarian pancake all made from local ingredients. What a wonderful time we have shared. We will definitely be back for more!!

Valentina and Adrien, Swizerland, July 2011

Thank you for this good breakfast. I slept very well and felt like at home in this nice and comfortable house. Greetings from Swizerland

Carrie, Toronto, Ontario, July 2011

Thanks for the great stay and lovely breakfast. Definitely a better long weekend idea than fighting the Muskoka traffic! But then again, I secretly hope that more people don’t find out about this little gem so that we can keep it all to ourselves!

Yulinda from Toronto July  2011

Thank you for the amazing stay–you have definitely made our stay very memorable!  We will definitely be back soon.

Paula and Tony, London, Ontario, July 2011, Guests who came for a five-day fly fishing holiday

Miriam and John, thank you so much for your gracious hospitality. We have relaxed and enjoyed your company and have no hesitation in recommending “The Doctor’s House” to others. We will return.

Janet and friends (Ladies Getaway), Hamilton, June 2011

Walking in the door to the Doctor’s House is like entering the portal to another era. The decor and attention to detail sweep you back to the feeling and charm of a younger Canada in it’s beginnings. The Doctor’s House is really a “home” with a welcome in every room. Five of us ladies spent a marvellous weekend in the Crow’s Nest celebrating a 65th birthday and retirement of a dearest friend. The accommodation suited our group perfectly–”all together in one precious apartment”–which is how it should be with friends. We are all planning our next visit with John and Miriam to their little “piece of Heaven”, one of Tara’s true treasures.

Deborah and Miko (International student from Japan), June 2011

The Victorian room was wonderful! Miriam and John are very knowledgeable about the area. Breakfasts were great too! Thanks so much, we will be back.

Desneiges, Peterborough, May 2011

What a delightful step back in time, to a much more gracious era—soothing to the soul! The Doctor’s House has been lovingly restored by the owners and the antiques are amazing and all artwork has a story. The food is beautifully prepared by loving hands with the most healthy ingredients—thick apple pancake, a dream! Take a stroll down River Road and feel cares melt away– I would be amiss not to mention the gardens—where Miriam pops out to get fresh herbs for soup or flowers to grace the table….and at the end of the evening you may hear John strumming his guitar and singing one of his favourite John Denver tunes….This may sound like paradise…well, it’s awfully close! I shall return!! May your dreams be realized…

Mary, Guelph, Ontario, May 2011

Thank you Miriam and John for my very unique stay. After a long day of completing several scheduled endeavours, I greatly appreciated the “spa” treatment in the sauna. Relaxing afterwards and viewing the “Victorian Farm” BBC programs, was a perfect end of the day in this Victorian stately home. Best regards
